CHAPTER FIVE - SILHOUETTES
In that very moment of locking eyes with the hideous creature Isaac felt as if his soul was on fire. Like it was peering right through his flesh. The creature smiled, revealing two rows of human-like teeth before bellowing a horrific screech. Wilhelm and Silas stopped dead in their tracks, staring back at what would be the catalyst of the fight for their survival. “SWING.” Wilhelm bellowed at Isaac. Without thinking he swung the bat with every bit of strength he could muster, connecting directly with the side of the creature's head. Black liquid shot across the alley covering brick like freshly sprayed graffiti. As it crumpled to the ground lifeless the air got heavy, and the city was dead silent. Like the vacuum of space. The trio were frozen in their steps, listening. The sound of a horrific chorus came rushing down the alley. A whole gang of them sprinting, responding to their fallen ally’s final call. The trio bolted down the main road, trying not to look back. “Up ahead is a Cul-de-sac" Wilhelm grunted. “We’ll make our stand at the fountain in the middle. You’re going to make your way past the fountain and into the building directly across. By any means necessary.” Isaac could hear the desperation in Wilhelm's tone. This would be their only chance of going back. The trio continued down the road as the cloud of eyes and teeth behind them we’re catching up in pursuit. After what felt like the longest moment of Isaacs life, they had reached the fountain. Wilhelm and Silas immediately pivoted to face the crowd; their weapons held tightly. Ready for bloodshed. Isaac stopped and looked at his two companions. He felt like a coward, to keep running while they faced their near certain doom. Wilhelm peered over his shoulder at Isaac. “GO.” He shouted in the loudest voice Isaac had ever heard. Isaac gripped his bat tightly and continued running. “Let’s at least make this entertaining.” Silas said to Wilhelm with a wry smile. “Aye.” He responded with a nod. The gang of shadows collided into them. Eyes, teeth and claws scattered about in the grotesque mist of ultraviolence as the two pummeled the silhouettes with every ounce of their anger. Three of them latched onto Wilhelm, gouging at his eyes and ripping his throat. “I WILL MAKE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SUFFER.” Isaac heard Wilhelm bellow. He knew this was Wilhelm's end. The massive set of double doors guarding the target building were in sight. He sprinted as fast as he could. Another gang of Silhouettes cut him off from the left, arms extended. Isaac closed his eyes. He heard the sound of metal meeting skull. It was Silas. He had gone around the other side of the fountain and crashed into the group. “FOLLOW ME YOU PIECES OF SHIT” Silas shouted, and they obliged. Silas smiled and winked at Isaac. “Break my bonds mate.” Was the last thing Silas yelled before bolting down a side road. He knew this would happen and knew what he would have to do. Isaac was home free. He yanked one of the large doors open and stepped in. From the outside it appeared to be a large hall, but Isaac was shocked to see it was simply a long, long narrow corridor. The walls were a sickly hospital yellow and the floors a faded checkboard pattern. He continued down the corridor unsure of what other horrors he might see.
